It’s one of those things that you’ve never thought about before, but in the context of an ice skating rink, you might not even have to think about it.
While it’s not exactly new technology, the idea of skating in a virtual environment, where there are no other spectators, is getting a lot of attention.
And the Galleria Ice Skating Center in New York City is now the go-to destination for people who want to take the plunge and do something different.
“When you’re out in the community, there’s always a few people that you know,” Galleria manager Mike Dziczek told ABC News.
“So you’ve got to ask them, ‘What’s your name?
Where’s your family?
What are your friends?’
You can’t be alone and be in a situation like this.
You’ve got a group of people that’s been there for years, and they’re just really nice people.
So you can kind of get a little bit of comfort in that space.”
There’s no doubt that it’s going to be a challenge to find a space in New Zealand where you can spend the entire day, but Dzikas said that is the goal.
It’s an option Galleria is looking at as a way to bring in new members to the ice rink.
“It’s a great idea, but we need people to be able to come to the rink, and we need them to be comfortable,” he said.
“And we need it to be open for a bit of time.
And we’re open for two weeks a year.”
As the name implies, this will be a virtual ice rink, with players being able to walk around freely, but they won’t be able skate on the ice.
The goal is to make sure there are enough people to meet the needs of the skating crowd, and to allow for the possibility of other skaters to join the session, while still allowing for people to enjoy the rink.
Dzikases said the idea was hatched by one of the rink’s regulars, who is from the same family as the Galleries.
“He got really into it, and he had this idea of putting on a virtual skate session,” Dzichas said.
“He said, ‘I’ll be coming and skating in the morning, and I’ll be able see you in the afternoon, and then I’ll come back.’
So we decided to do that.”
In the meantime, the rink is only open to those who are in attendance for two hours a day, and the idea is to have about 10 people participating for the whole day.
There are currently no plans for any other guests to be on-site at any point during the day.
Galleria is offering a special gift bag for those who make the trek, which includes a full skate session, a skate mat, a few drinks and snacks, and a pair of sunglasses.
